I am going to be pretty busy the next couple of months gifting and blowing eggs so don’t have much time to get my new dance career going…. So I July 2012 the gifting is going take a back seat and I am going to spend the rest of 2012 putting all of my creative energy into becoming the dancer I was born to be. From July I will be putting on a dance performance every week which will be documented in all the usual forms (text, video, sound, image) and uploaded here for you’re viewing.
But until then check out www.jakeayre.wordpress.com for my latest happenings and dance to this cracking tune.
Again I have been busy but not with the posts I really need to connect my tumblr to youtube & things somehow so I dont have to keep remembering to log into all of the different social devices.
But yes lots of change. I’ve completed a fantastic project in Liverpool which was great, and I will write a post up about that later & post it by the end of the week. I promise!… But just quickly i will say the project was brilliant working with the people of liverpool and Tim Jeeves about the gift. I’ve finally started my rap career songs & videos to follow.. but until then…
The reason for the changes is that I am no longer a receiver of regular grants or loans so cannot afford to pay for the fees of my previous site and I think it’s always best to lower costs.
Hope you’re all well & I’ve decided not to promise that I will post everyweek or everyday because I’ve realised im not a blogging person… But I will be blogging every now and then about how my projects are developing etc.
hope you’re all great!

Update: Settling In Bristol, Giving Into Gift @ The BlueCoat Gallery Liverpool
I’m now a graduate of Dartington College of Art inc University College Falmouth. I’ve spent the last couple months settling in Bristol. I’ve yet to do any public art in Bristol, as the pressures of everyday life (job hunting) are clouding my creative brain. But this weekend my juices are going to get going again as I head to Liverpool.
I have been selected as one of 6 commissioned artists to take part in ‘The Giving Into Gift’ project. The project is very similar to my ‘The Gift Must Always Move’ project & is exploring the ideas of gift exchange in art. The project kicks off with a 24 hour workshop with director of the project, Tim Jeeves. After that we will be meeting in Liverpool every Monday for the whole of October to make public art & share ideas. The project reaches to a climax on the 12th November with an installation/exhibition at The Blue Coat & public art performances across the city.
I will be doing my usual thing - working with low cost materials, making books, songs, dances & video works… But there is new strand of performance I am looking to build on……
RAP.
Yes I’ve decided to become a rapper. I’ve realised that this could be the best way to talk about my work & what I am trying to do as an artist.
Keep your ears & eyes out for lots of post from now on especially during ‘The Giving Into Gift’ project.

Richard Sennett - The Craftsman
Do you feel pride in your work? Is your job letting you have fulfillment in your life… Richard Sennett’s book The Craftsman will get you questioning how many people make work that matters.
Sennett got me questioning the majority of my past employment particular his section on Conflicting Standards Correct Versus Practical. Protocol Seems to be taking over common sense. CV’s seem to be a great example of this how many times have you given an employer your CV & they say oh that looks great I’m going to have to get you to fill in an application form too. But everything they require is in my CV but yet I still have to waste paper for protocol.
Sennetts approach to work has made me keep a close eye on the reasoning behind my arts practice to make sure that what I am doing is training to be a master of my art, or my job in life.
‘All craftsmanship is founded on skill developed to a high degree. By one commonly used measure, about 10,000 hours of experience are required to produce a master carpenter or musician. As skill progresses, it becomes more problem-attuned, such as the lab technician worrying about procedure - whereas people with primitive levels of skill struggle just to get things to work. At its higher reaches, technique is no longer a mechanical activity; people can feel fully and think deeply about what they are doing, once they do it well.’ Richard Sennett
Created, tried and tested last night on my house load of artists, dancers and musicians-so it gets the arty farty student thumbs up…..try it and let me know what you think…
Here you can see my thoughts, feelings, influences, stories about my artwork & life... Particularly on 'the gift must always move' & 'slugback' projects.
